In a world that faces global warming, environmental loss and pollution at a planetary scale, it is indeed paradoxical how man’s own machinations keep him from using natural resources at his disposal. While on one hand, wars are fought for oil and governments toppled for uranium, a humble craftsman is forbidden from making use of bamboo, easily available in abundance in his immediate locality, simply because the powers that be are yet to decide whether it’s a weed, grass, shrub or tree.

Hollow Cylinder delivers this, and other equally compelling issues relating to bamboo and the East Indian states, with a calm and steady perseverance that well compliments the gravity of implications that spew forth from an agro-industrial society whose survival may very well be contingent on this one resource at their hands.
